Ara la Torm is one of the focus characters in The Night Goddess Series.
In Umbrian men add their wives’ names to their own. While property is often passed down in the female line they aren’t chattel or property themselves (unlike the men of Pannarius on the world of Redolan).
For men and women alike there is a word between their first and last name that denotes their marital status. For women it is la for unmarried and le for married and for men da and de respectively.
In this chart the men’s names are listed as ne <insert last name> for the sake of room but properly their wife’s family name is listed after their own. One example of that is Ara’s grandfather. In the tree his is listed as Andu ne Barma but his name is actually Andu ne Barma de Torm.
One of my favorite parts about writing is the world building and I feel I have just scratched the surface in Bestairia.
